"Jazz"

The music genre jazz emerged at the beginning of the 20th century and developed primarily from elements of Afro-American but also European music.

Jazz has its roots in the gospel and blues of the US slave laborers and influenced all music genres from pop to folk paving the way for continuously complex and masterly creations.

Jazz is based on a mostly European tonal systems and encompasses European melodies and harmonic, musical forms (e.g. song form) and basic rhythmic structures from Europe (e.g. march) as well as European instruments (wind instruments, piano, guitar, contrabass, bass drum, snare drums and cymbals). Due to its development in Europe, Jazz also combines different styles of European art music. New forms of this genre still have certain musical and aesthetic elements (like blue notes) that are characteristic for Jazz.
